Customer Gallery - Cosplay
Just because a costume is featured only in a two-dimensional source like animation doesn't mean it can't be replicated with a high degree of quality and accuracy. With the increase in anime-oriented and anime-only conventions, there is a huge demand for these kinds of costumes to look and fit well, and to stand head-and-shoulders above the crowd.
I am moving more into these kinds of commissions as my reputation gets out among cosplayers, and these are just a few of the projects I've done for them.

Shinigami Captain
|
This black and white ensemble from a very popular series is not as easy to pull off as it looks, because of the traditional
clothing and the emblems on the back of the coat.
The separate white and black kimono are similar to other tunics I've done. I asked the customer to purchase his own hakama from a martial arts store.
Costume highlights:
- two kimono worn in layers, not just a black kimono trimmed in white!
- captain's number and black abstract decorations on outer coat done in fabric paint

HOLY uniform
|
A very difficult, tailored uniform featuring three colors, all jointed together into one whole.
I liked the way this uniform turned out (and the anime it comes from) so much that I made one for myself!
Costume highlights:
- Fabrics are entirely twill - blue, white, and dark gray (black)
- Patch was created by hand in Illustrator and dye sublimated onto duck canvas fabric

Yondaime ninja
|
Many of the costumes I get asked to do are simply the coats, as people find it easier to collect the under-clothing themselves and let me tackle the complicated part. This ninja coat is no exception.
Costume highlights:
- Flames on the bottom and kanji on back are fabric paint
- Twill coat is fully lined with purple contrast fabric

Motorcycle vest
|
Once again, my part was to create the complicated pleather motorcycle vest for this character, with all its studs and buckles. The customer purchased the fabric, it is real stretch pleather.
Costume highlights:
- Shoulder armor is Wonderflex plastic, covered in spandex fabric with Foamies used as trim
- Some of the silver studs connecting the straps across the closure are actually silver snaps
- The vest closes with velcro and snaps, and buckles at the collar

Gay rock star!
|
When I was asked to do this version of this character, I opted not to use yellow vinyl for the coat. Not all the reference indicated that it was shiny. Instead, I went with a comfortable, washable cotton.
Costume highlights:
- Fully lined with orange cotton, washed to be colorfast
- Tabs at waist have buttons covered in the same fabric

Mercenary vest
|
Not all costume pieces are super-complex, some are just simply out of the skill range of some basic cosplayers. This vest for a getbacker had to be custom-made in order to get the pockets and seam details exact.
Costume highlights:
- Black tulle netting used to simulate cargo netting on shoulder yoke
- Accurate number of pockets with certain pleats

Yamato
|
The shirt and pants are tailored from scratch, in order to have correct fit and detail. The base fabric is a brushed cotton twill with cotton trim, while the coat is linen/rayon with bias trim and flannel cuffs.
Costume highlights:
- Cuff and sleeve details are appliqued

Egyptian Tombkeeper
|
This Tombkeeper costume is a very simple off-the-shoulder sheath gown. The accessories for this outfit are what gives it its punch.
To date, this is the only costume to include a prop-commision--the necklace and headpiece were both created by Strange Land Costuming.
Costume highlights:
- Necklace prop/accessory is Sculpey with a variety of beads (including bone beads)
- The trim on the gown was painted on with fabric paint

Studded White Coat
|
This costume features a sleeveless white coat with full flare, exaggerated shoulders, and a dark fuschia lining. More than five yards of fabric goes into flared coats of this style.
Costume highlights:
- 24 silver studs on shoulders, collar, and front
- Embroidered company logo on the left front collar
- Accurate rolled hem

Plush monster
|
After seeing my own plushie monster (in my cosplay gallery), a friend asked me to make him a monster of his own, appropriate to the character he likes to dress as.
Costume highlights:
- Gears are hand-sewn, made of stiffened craft felt that holds it shape
- Clock hands actually move around button - and yes, googly eyes!
- Staff is made of sculpey, the head baked separately and glued to a dowel
