Awards

I don't compete in many convention Masquerades but I usually take part in at least one or two each year. Deep down, I’m a costumer, not a performer, so I don’t enjoy competing in contests where craftsmanship is not judged at all or is not a major part of your score.

I took a year off from competing in 2004 for my own sanity’s sake and concentrated only on hall cosplay contests. This experience taught me that I much prefer hall cosplay to Masquerade competition. Running around the con, finding other characters to pose for pictures with, and generally being fawned over by fans and photographed (which is essentially what "hall cosplay" means) is an instant-gratification sort of ego-stroking that requires no preparation or performance.

Nevertheless, I do have a collection of awards I can be proud of. It serves to remind me that others have recognized my skill level. I love all my awards and am very grateful to have been singled out with a trophy for my work.

  • Judge's Award "Best Punchline," CostumeCon 27 - Bishop Sasarai

  • Workmanship Medal, CONvergence 11 - "The Art of Black and White" (The King from Shirogane no Ou)
  • Workmanship Medal, CONvergence 03 - Luminara Unduli
  • Second place, DragonCon anime contest - Dende
  • Best In Show, FilmCon 5 - Legendary Hero Yugi

Please note: Most convention Masquerades and cosplay contests have specific rules stipulating that you cannot enter something you have not made yourself, and I take that very seriously. A costumer’s work is his or her own, no one should take credit for it. Please enjoy commissions to the fullest, but don’t try to tell people you did it, particularly not for competitions. A contract with me includes the promise not to enter any of my work into competition, and I regularly haunt the photo sites after conventions to see Masquerade galleries. I will know!
